Join us for a Parent Portal Training and Input Meeting on December 5, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at the Emmett Shockley Admin Building, 400 Cody Rd. Laptops will be available for your use during the training. Learn to: Register a new student, update information, view your child's grades and attendance, communicate with your child's teacher(s). Other topics will include: Deming Intermediate School Presentation, district operation updates, question and answer session, kids holiday craft table, food and drinks provided.

Bataan Elementary is excited to share updates to our master schedule, including changes to student lunch times, morning drop-off procedures, and recess routines. These adjustments aim to enhance the school day structure and improve the overall experience for our students.

Local high school senior Ayshleen Lopez has been named a Semifinalist for the 2025 Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship. A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the country and The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States. With the addition of the 2025 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 7,050 Coke Scholars nationwide with over $87 million in scholarships over the course of 37 years.

Visibility is key to staying safe at the bus stop and on the way to school! Whether it’s early in the morning or late in the afternoon, wearing bright, reflective clothing ensures that drivers can see you clearly. Here’s how you can stay visible and safe: • Wear bright colors like neon or yellow, especially in low-light conditions. • Add reflective gear to your backpack, jacket, or shoes to increase visibility. • Avoid distractions like headphones or texting while walking to the bus stop—stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Remember, the more visible you are, the safer your journey will be! Let’s all do our part to make every trip to and from school a safe one. “Be Visible, Be Safe!”

This Thankful Thursday, let’s take a moment to recognize the hardworking bus drivers and aides who ensure our students arrive safely at school and back home every day. Their dedication to safety and care is invaluable, and they play a vital role in our community. Here’s how you can show your appreciation: • Say thank you – A simple “thank you” as you get on or off the bus can brighten their day. • Write a note – Share a kind message or card expressing your gratitude for their efforts. • Create a poster – Work with friends or classmates to create a group poster to display on the bus or in the school. Let’s come together to celebrate and thank our drivers and aides for their commitment to safety and their positive impact on students' daily lives. “Thankful Thursday: Because a safe ride starts with them!”

Ensuring safety at the bus stop is a shared responsibility for students, parents, and the entire community. By following a few simple guidelines, we can create a safer environment for everyone. For Students: • Arrive early – Be at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the bus arrives. • Stand back – Wait in a safe area, away from the curb or street. • Stay visible – Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in low-light conditions. • No running or horseplay – Keep distractions to a minimum while waiting for the bus. • Cross safely – Always cross in front of the bus, never behind, and wait for the driver’s signal before crossing.

Join us in celebrating Yellow Day on Wednesday, October 23 and show your commitment to school bus safety! On this special day, we encourage students, staff, and community members to wear yellow as a reminder of the important role school buses play in safely transporting students to and from school. By wearing yellow, you’re helping to raise awareness about: • Safe behavior on and around school buses. • The vital work of bus drivers and transportation staff. • The responsibility we all share to keep our students safe on the road. Let’s paint the town yellow and remind everyone that safety starts with us! “Wear Yellow, Ride Safe!”

Did you know that staying seated is one of the most important ways to stay safe on the school bus? When you’re seated and facing forward, you help your driver focus on the road and reduce the risk of injury if the bus makes a sudden stop.

Jaynes Construction is starting construction work for the My Little School Addition and Renovation Project. During this time there will be increased traffic in the areas of Buckeye, Iron, and Olive Streets. School Bus drop off and pick up area will be unchanged during the project. Please observe all safety signage and exercise caution. There will be heavy equipment and increased traffic in the area. The project is scheduled to be complete by June 30, 2025.
