Deming Public Schools Thanksgiving Luncheon

On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Student Nutrition Department will be serving a Thanksgiving Luncheon to Bell Elementary, My Little School, Memorial Elementary, and Chaparral Elementary. On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the Student Nutrition Department will be serving a Thanksgiving Luncheon to Ruben Torres Elementary, Bataan Elementary, Columbus Elementary, Deming Intermediate, Red Mountain Middle, Deming High, Early College, Mimbres Valley, and Deming Ceasar Chavez Charter High School. Parents, guardians, and family members are invited to eat lunch with their children. Advanced tickets, for $6.00, MUST be purchased, and will be on sale ONLY until 3:00 p.m. on November 01, 2023. There will be no tickets sold on the day of the event. If you do not have a ticket, you will not be admitted to the event. Tickets are non-refundable. Lunch is free for enrolled DPS students. All tickets can be purchased at the school site your child attends.

Attention: DHS Parents - October 18 Testing Day

On the upcoming PSAT Testing day, Wednesday, October 18, students who are not taking tests will not be required to attend school in person, they will attend school virtually.. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to: 1. Review their current grades. 2. Complete any makeup assignments. 3. Email teachers with questions about grades or coursework. We strongly encourage students to use this day productively to improve their academic standing.

Key Points for PSAT Day: Who Will Attend: Only sophomores and selected juniors are to attend school at Deming High School on October 18 for the PSAT. Arrival Time: • Please be on time (8:15 am). No Parking by DHS Field House

Deming Public Schools want to inform the public that parking will no longer be available behind the Deming High School Memorial Stadium Field House. The area behind the field house is now a fire lane.Deming Public Schools and Deming High School would like to encourage students to utilize the available student parking on campus. Students need to provide their driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registration to obtain a parking pass. Law Enforcement Training at Memorial Elementary

During Fall Break on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, law enforcement will undergo a series of sensitive training sessions on and within the premises of Memorial Elementary. Trainings will consist of strictly movement skills and will assist police personnel in becoming familiar with the layout of the buildings. Due to the trainings, you may see law enforcement, vehicles, and activity at Memorial Elementary.

Transportation Announcement 9.21

Deming Public Schools wants to inform the public that on Thursday, September 21, 2023, Bus # 43 stopped to attend to student related medical emergencies. Out of an abundance of caution, EMS transported several students for additional evaluation. All other students were transported to their regular bus stops. Parents of students on Bus # 43 were notified of the situation.

Lockdown at Ruben S. Torres Elementary

Deming Public Schools wants to inform the public that today, September 22, 2023, Ruben S. Torres Elementary administration was alerted to a potential weapon on campus. In partnership with local law enforcement the school site went into lockdown. An individual, not associated with the schools, was arrested outside of the school building, and never gained entry or access to any of the facility. All students and staff were safe and secure in the building.

See You at the Pole

The Deming High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Students would like to invite the entire community to our See You at the Pole event, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 7:00am around the flagpole at DHS Memorial Stadium. See You at the Pole is a Global Day of Student prayer, which began in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. Twenty-Two years later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September not just around the country, but around the World. See You at the Pole is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.

School Bus Front Door Evacuations

Deming Public Schools has scheduled school bus front door evacuations for Thursday, September 21, 2023 in all bus zones. Buses will load their students, engage the bus into gear, pull forward a minimum 10 feet, apply the parking brake, gear into neutral, the driver will give the students instructions on what to do, and then unload. Students shall depart the bus walking briefly a minimum of 75 feet to the front of the bus assuming the issue is towards the rear of the bus.

Football Game Canceled

The Belen Eagles have forfeited due to their first strike under the new “2 Strikes” sportsmanship bylaw. Wildcats will win the game due to the forfeit. Deming Public Schools wants to inform the public that today, September 8, 2023, Bus # 11 was involved in a traffic accident during the afternoon bus run. Local law enforcement, Deming Public Schools staff, and EMS arrived quickly on the scene and assessed the situation. No injuries were reported, and all students are safe. Parents who were unable to be contacted to pick up their student, were transported home by bus.

Central Cafeteria Update 9.6.23

On August 10, concerns regarding the smell of gas at Central Cafeteria were raised. Staff were moved out of the building to other school sites and meals were modified at My Little School, Bell Elementary, Chaparral Elementary, and Memorial Elementary. Communication was sent to parents at those four schools along with being posted on our social media sites, website, and released to our media partners. Under emergency procurement, a licensed external plumber was hired to replace all the gas lines in the central cafeteria building. As of September 5, the work has been completed and the inspection was passed. Hot meals resumed at all effected school sites on August 28 utilizing other kitchens across the district. We take all concerns seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and work with appropriate agencies to ensure our facilities are safe. Attention:Parents of students 16 years or older

We want to inform you of a new Immunization requirement that will be in effect for students enrolling in Fall 2023 semester in New Mexico. • All students entering 11th grade who are 16 years and older, will be required to get a second dose of a vaccine called Meningococcal ACWY or MenACWY. • If your teen is not yet 16, but is entering 11th grade, wait until your teen turns 16 to get the booster and please let the school nurse know. Boosters given before age 16 don’t count and would have to be repeated.

Central Cafeteria Update

Deming Public Schools will resume hot meals for the students at My Little School, Bell Elementary, Chaparral Elementary, and Memorial Elementary on Monday, August 28, 2023. While central cafeteria is under repair the district has reorganized meal preparation and distribution from other school sites to resume hot meal service to students. Central Cafeteria

Deming Public Schools central cafeteria is undergoing repairs for gas lines. Out of an abundance of caution to address the issue completely and thoroughly, the district is completely replacing gas lines in order to restore gas service. Central cafeteria provides meals for My Little School, Bell Elementary, Chaparral Elementary, and Memorial Elementary. We anticipate the repairs to be completed by Wednesday, August 23, 2023, and hope to be approved by inspection before the end of the week.

Bus Transportation Announcement

Deming Public Schools Transportation Department would like to inform parents and students who ride the bus of the following: • Due to high temperatures, bus riders have been permitted to take water bottles on the bus until Friday, September 15, 2023. • Only water is allowed on the bus. • Bus drivers will have windows down to help air circulate and keep temperatures in the bus as low as possible. Transportation Back to School Information

Below are some reminders from the Transportation Team for the new school year. Student Eligibility • New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) transportation state statue provides that students are eligible for transportation services if school bus routes are: • One mile one way for students in grades kindergarten through 6 • One and one-half miles one way for students in grades 7-9 • Two miles one way for students in grades 10-12 • Students will not be required to walk a greater distance to the bus stop than the required walking distance for each grade level. • All NM Pre-K students are ineligible for transportation except those with an IEP that require special needs busing.
