Water Testing Results

Water Testing Results
Posted on 10/01/2025

Dear Parents and Guardians/Staff,

We are sharing this notice to inform you about the results of water testing that was conducted at our school campuses in May 2023 by the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) as part of a statewide program.

Yesterday the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) provided us the results of these tests which took place over two years ago.

Although the majority of our water sources showed no lead, and most of those that did, indicated low levels, Deming Public Schools will follow all recommendations from the New Mexico Environment Department. Signs will be posted at locations where lead was detected, indicating that the water should not be used for drinking or food preparation. (see example below).  This will be done as a precaution while we follow up on the information in the report since it was based on information from May 2023.

Since the original samples were taken in May of 2023 there has been maintenance and upgrades to fixtures and infrastructure by both the school district and local water utility providers.  We will examine how these changes impacted water quality and implement other lead mitigation steps as needed.  In addition, we will consult with the NMED, and conduct follow up testing as appropriate.

Please be assured that safe drinking water is available throughout our campuses for both students and staff, along with water that can be used for food preparation.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for our students.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Wohlgemuth
Superintendent
Deming Public Schools
